My Experience

I have had much experience throughout my life with both looked after children and, children and adults with disabilities and special educational needs including helping my mother and grandfather to care for my adopted uncle, who has an acquired brain injury, leaving him completely dependent on others, and my fostered aunt who has cerebral palsy, both are wheelchair users.

I have a younger sister, aged 14, who is currently undergoing genetic testing and is suspected to have a form of muscular dystrophy, she has recently had surgery to try and correct a leg length discrepancy and she also has hypermobility. She has hypersensitive hearing and presents as auditory defensive, she also has an auditory processing disorder. Due to the combination of her physical and cognitive difficulties she struggles a lot at school and socially.

I have supported a child with a statement for behaviour in a reception class, transitioning into the year 1 class at Hernhill C of E Primary School. I also have had experience with children with autism, auditory processing disorder, auditory defensive reactions, sensory hypersensitivity, communication difficulties and children with hearing impairments who use a radio aid at Eastling Primary School. Where I supported the children in the year 1 and 2 class and the year 3 and 4 class, also helping the children with this transition. Some of my time spent at Eastling School was voluntary after the completion of my apprenticeship and I try to help out whenever I get a chance.

I have babysat the same child, a girl aged 3, on several occasions since the age of about 6 months and have babysat for her once a fortnight over the past few months most often for 9 hours at a time and providing a nutritious lunch and dinner whilst her mother attends college or work.

I am currently working part time as an administration assistant at Horsepower UK Ltd where I have created their Health and Safety policy, their Fire Procedure and Policy and their COSHH Folder and Policy, these tasks have including carrying out risk assessments and organising equipment tests and training. I also have experience of data protection.
